Postcards from Lovedale

Apu: Da, Ooty-kku porunno? (Coming to Ooty?)
Me: Ngaa. (Yes.) 🙂

Who wouldn’t want to go to Ooty when it rains? And off I went with Apu and Bobby to Ooty. Lovedale to be precise. Random snapshots from the trip.

01
Morning train to Kochi.

02
Bus to Angamaly from where Apu picked me up and our journey started. First halt was at Coimbatore where we were joined by Bobby and then around 2 or so in the morning, we left for Lovedale.

03
3 km more.

04
Stopped for our first ‘chai’ around 6 in the morning.

05
We managed to get accommodation in a truly vintage place (much to my happiness) that’s run by a church.

06
Morning sunlight through the red curtain in our bedroom.

07
The brass-tipped switch. I’ve never seen one like this. Perfectly functional!

08
The doors.

09-new
The place had a small kitchen too.

10
Morning drive to Lawrence School via a short-cut.

11
The Lawrence School, Lovedale.

12
Way to the first floor auditorium.

13
Look up and you see the sky through the gigantic vintage window in the auditorium.

14
Look down and you see the beautiful garden outside.

15
Chairs in the auditorium.

16
The school building through a window.

17
Washroom.

18
The tiled roof of the school building through another window.

19
Another view of the school. Some scenes of “Karwaan” were shot in and around this area.

20
I love these windows!

21
Soon after the rain.

22
A chimney.

23
Forgot what this building was. Staff club?

24
Just another window around sunset.

25
When it rained in the evening, around 6:30 p.m.

26
A tiny visitor walking slowly on the cover of a notebook.

27
A random shot from their Founder’s Day celebrations. This boy was just too good!

36
Even I “Lov 2” toilet.

37
The iron bell at Lovedale Station.

38
Lovedale in Tamil and Hindi.

39
Waited till 11:30, but no sign of the train. Some technical issues per the station master. And so I exited.

The post box outside Lovedale PO.

41
A random dilapidated building somewhere near the station.

42
The bus stop at Lovedale.

43
Selvam’s.

44
A church, some houses, and a road way down below.

45
Walked down that road in the previous photo and reached Rajan’s teashop. He is from Kerala.

It rains in May in Lovedale. Umbrella, some vessels, and me.

47
